Rockidle - how it all began  

About Rockidle the songwriter  

Born and raised in Ireland, grew up in England, and finally settled down in Finland. A keen songwriter for many years, with close to 400 songs written. Most of these won´t (fortunately) ever get to see the light of day, but by the end of November about 45 of those songs will be captured on a recording. I do not have and have never been in a band. I could not play an instrument well enough, and there's always going to be compromises with other members of a band over pretty much anything.

I am not a musician, and would never call myself one. I was in my 20's when I bought an acoustic guitar. Before that, it was writing songs on Casio keyboards, and seeing what I could come up with. Doorbell music tunes mostly. I was writing lyrics in my teens, I suppose it was my way of expressing myself, getting my thoughts down on paper. Once I was able to play some chords on an acoustic, then I got into writing more and more.

No different to a lot of songwriters, regardless of the genre of music, it’s about trying to write or find a melody or a hook, and take it from there. Songs are stories, they should have a start, middle, an end, have content, and mean something. The songs are like children, they are born with me playing some chords on an acoustic guitar, lyrics, and having an idea of how you want them to sound. Hopefully some of them grow up, develop, flourish, and when released or shared, they leave home.

When I grow up (if I ever do), I would like to be a songwriter. That is the thing about music, you don’t need to grow up, or you’re never too old for it. Maybe someone, somewhere, at some time is looking for a songwriter, or listens to one of the songs I have written, and thinks, yeah, good song, this guy can write.
